NC Museum of Science

If you can't go to nature, then nature must come to you! OK, so having said that, I'm not nearly as tough as my Nature Group friends whose work I so admire. I took myself to the NC Museum of Science last Saturday and spent the day inside the warm museum looking at the exhibits. This was the first time the butterfly room was open when I was there and it was amazing. The room is filled with different species of butterflies and all the beautiful plants and food sources that they need. I took close up shots of them and then went to grab a bite to eat in the Museum cafe. The cafe has a glass wall that gives you an incredible view of the inside of the butterfly room. I sat for a long time sketching and enjoying the quiet. I didn't get around to finishing my page until today when the snow kept me in. It was a great day!

New Year's Day. Time for setting goals, making resolutions, starting fresh. You know the drill. Today I had our traditional New Year's lunch with family. Good food, good company, good time. I have started reading Kathy Johnson's book The Sierra Club Guide to Sketching in Nature with a group of very dear online friends. Today was too busy to go outside and sketch - got home after dark - so I will stretch a bit and say this is my first nature drawing of the year.
